Members receive two issues of the society's journal, Studies in American Naturalism, at a significant discount, and members can submit papers for presentation under the society's auspices at the annual meeting of the American Literature Association. There are three ways to join the society:

- Yearly dues remain the same: $20 in the U.S. ($10 for students); $30 for international members ($20 for international students), but we added a $5 surcharge to fund the Elias Prize, an annual award that is given by the society to a graduate student or untenured faculty member who submits the best previously unpublished essay to SAN. When paying your dues, please include the $5 surcharge. The total will be $25 in the U.S. ($15 for students); $35 for international members ($25 for international students).
